Snorkel Equipment Honolulu

Snorkel Equipment Honolulu - get your gear and off you go! You will need a a mask, a snorkel and fins. You can get some super cheap equipment at places like the ABC Stores that carry Snorkel Equipment Honolulu.. If you want better equipment but you don't want to purchase or don't know what to purchase, places like Snorkel Bob's rent some very good equipment. Renting is also a good way to try different brands and styles before buying something. If you expect to go snorkeling on a regular basis, the best is to invest in your own well fitting equipment.

The Mask and Snorkel

Trying the mask and snorkel together is ideal to make sure they fit nicely together. You might find a great mask and a great snorkel but if they don't work well together, it's no good. Because you'll want to try the mouthpiece, we recommend bringing something with you to clean it before putting it in your mouth.

For the mask, you want something that will give you a good seal. They make different sizes including children's and women's sizes so you should be able to find something that fits well. The cheaper equipment comes in packages so you won't get to try it on but when you can, try a few different masks to find the best fit. If the mask does not fit properly, water can leak in and you will have to keep emptying it out.

If you wear glasses, you can order prescription masks that are more expensive but definitely worth it. There's no use going snorkeling if you can't see anything, right? You can buy a mask that already has a general corrective lens in it or you can have one made to your prescription. Some people do go snorkeling with their contacts and if you have a good fitting mask, you may be able to get away with it.

For the snorkel, it's pretty basic with a few options. One difficulty with snorkeling is that sometimes water gets into the snorkel and you have to purge it. Some snorkels called dry or semi dry snorkels are made to keep water from getting in. They are more expensive but worth a look.

The Fins

Photo of fins. The fins really help you move more smoothly in the water; more like a fish and less like a human and again, you want a good fit. There are two basic styles and the one you choose depends mostly on how you will use them and your personal preference.

Full Foot Fins are more popular for snorkeling and offer more flexibility. As the name indicates, the fin has a closed foot and you slip on the fin.

Fin boots.Adjustable Heel Fins are more popular for SCUBA and offer more thrust. The end of the fin is open with an adjustable strap that goes around the ankle. It's highly recommended to use boots to protect the feet.

The water is usually warm enough that you can go snorkeling in Honolulu year round without a wet suit but if you're going to be around sharp rocks and coral that can easily cut skin, protective clothing and rash guards can help. Long sleeves will also protect you from sun damage and some clothes will even come with UV protection in the material.

Don't forget about the sun! The sun is strong in Hawaii and it's easy to lose track of time when you're out snorkeling and end up with a nasty sunburn. Sun block is recommended.

Package And Online Deals

You can often get your snorkel gear at a discount if you buy the mask, snorkel and fins together. Sometimes, however, the best mask and snorkel for you are sold at different places. If you know what you want and the sizes and styles you need, ordering online can also get you a good discount. Check the shipping charges and return policies carefully!
