Rental Car in Honolulu

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

It's very easy to get a Rental Car in Honolulu. You have the international rental car agencies like Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Thrifty.com as well as some small local companies and if you rent the car for several days, you can often get some really good deals and don't forget to check for online specials. You can Reserve online at www.enterprise.com

When you get a Rental Car in Honolulu, there are two very important things to keep in mind:

1. Gas prices are higher here than on the mainland.
2. City parking can be difficult and expensive.

Downtown Honolulu is the worst spot for parking but if you're going to Waikiki look for some free parking in these areas. (Read the street signs carefully! Some places do not allow overnight parking and some streets must be empty during street cleaning.) Most shopping centers and grocery stores have their own free parking lots. Otherwise, you will probably be looking for a parking garage or metered parking. Once you get outside the downtown areas free parking gets much easier to find.

Photo of scooters for rent. There are many incredibly scenic highways that take you all over the island and having a car lets you explore them at your leisure. If you want something a little different for driving within Honolulu, you can get away with a scooter or for some exercise, good old fashioned bikes are also available for rent. Both will save you money on gas and are easier to park. If you plan to drive around the island, however, a car is best.

Renting a Limo

Maybe you have a special occasion to celebrate or you just want to travel in style and a limo will do the trick. You'll see there are limos everywhere and they are very popular for wedding parties. More expensive but very classy.

Alternatives to Car Rental

If you are planning to stay in the Honolulu and Waikiki area, and you don't want to hassle with a car or scooter, you can still get around by walking or using the bus or trolley.

Photo of a Waikiki Trolley. Honolulu has a great public transportation system called TheBus that goes all over the island. There is also The Waikiki Trolley that has several routes and one free trolley. Before you rent a car, it's worth having a look at TheBus and trolley routes to see if they go where you want to go. You can get maps at many hotels, shopping centers and ABC stores.

Whether you choose a Rental Car in Honolulu or other forms of transportation, you should be able to get around just fine and enjoy the beautiful beaches, entertaining activities and delicious restaurants.

Enjoy your time in Honolulu!
