Magic Island Honolulu
Magic Island Honolulu is one of our favorite places to walk around and watch the fish and we aren't alone. It's a super popular walking/jogging/biking area that many locals use to get their work out in before or after work. The large grassy area is perfect for picnics or sunbathing and the paved paths are perfect for pedestrians, bikers, even strollers.
Magic Island is the man-made peninsula between Ala Moana Beach and the harbor. It really does seem to be a part of Ala Moana but it has it's own name. It's made up of a large, grassy, shady park area with a small, protected swimming area at the end. The swimming area has only a few gentle waves thanks to the break walls but be careful of the rocky bottom. Even though the area is small and protected, the water does get quite deep. There is a lifeguard stand so this is a good area for families with children.
Off to one side, visitors get a wonderful view of Diamond Head and Waikiki and the other side is a nice spot to see the reef and watch the fish and sea turtles. Look carefully on the rocks for crabs. You might not see them at first but watch for a minute and you'll see lots!
Magic Island visitors can use the same free parking lot and street parking as Ala Moana visitors and Magic Island has bathrooms and showers.
