Kuhio Beach in Honolulu is an excellent spot for children or inexperienced swimmers because the water is protected by breakwalls and lifeguards are on duty. The walls slow the waves down so inside the walls you have very gentle water.
Kuhio Beach has, or course, the sandy beach area and also some grassy areas for sunbathing or just lounging. There are also paved areas with both shaded and unshaded benches and tables. There is a concession stand, bathrooms with lockers, outdoor showers, surfboard rentals and lessons. Right across the street you'll find restaurants and shopping including places like ABC Stores that have everything from snacks and drinks to souvenirs to inexpensive snorkeling gear and toys for the beach.
Evenings At The Beach
Kuhio Beach is also a popular spot in the evenings when you can enjoy free hula shows and concerts. Tiki tourches are lit around sunset for added ambiance and this is a nice area for an evening stroll. The sunsets are gorgeous and some restaurants across the street have tables with wonderful views.
Kuhio Beach is more that just a beach. You will also find three important landmarks here:
The Stones of Kapaemahu or The Wizard Stones
The Duke Kahanamoku Statue and The Prince Kuhio Statue
