Honolulu Recycles

Whether you live here or are just visiting, you'll be happy to know Honolulu Recycles! So where are the recycling centers? Well, you do need to know where to look.

Unfortunately, when you are out and about, you won't always find recycle bins as easily as we would like. The Honolulu Zoo has them, some natural food stores, hospitals and medical centers and the Honolulu Airport. Also check with your hotel. Some hotels have recycle programs, though they aren't publicized. In addition, many Waikiki hotel housekeepers collect items to recycle on their own. How do you find out? Just ask.

You can do even more than just recycle your items. If you want to help fund your Hawaiian vacation, take them to a Recycling Center and get paid. It takes a bit of effort and you won't make a fortune but at least you will make a little money for your efforts. Dress to get a little dirty.

Recycling Centers in Honolulu that will pay for some recyclables:

Waikiki

1812 Kalakaua Avenue
Across from the Hawaii Convention Center

1391 Kapiolani Boulevard
Across from Ala Moana Shopping Center

Downtown

State Capitol Building
415 South Beretania Street

City and County Municipal Building
650 South King Street

If you would rather donate the money, there are many local schools and community organizations that collect recyclables and use the money they earn for educational programs.

Magazines and Phone Books

Most places that recycle paper do not accept magazines or phone books but Hagadone Printing does. This local company is serious about its green efforts and even has a full time sustainability coordinator on staff.

Paper is accepted for recycling Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm
at the Drive-up, Drop-off banner
274 Puuhale Road
Near the airport

And finally, if you can't find a place to recycle and you have to throw recyclables in the trash, you'll be happy to know there are many people who walk through Waikiki and retrieve recyclables so all is not lost. There is still a good chance your recyclables will make it to the right place.

Thank you so much for helping keep Honolulu clean!
