Honolulu Rail Transit System

The traffic on Oahu can be brutal but there are serious plans to put in a Honolulu Rail Transit System. A 20 mile or 32 kilometer elevated rail line is proposed that will run from West Oahu to Ala Moana.

The system would be part of Honolulu’s public transportation system. This rail system would not be restricted by traffic because it would run on elevated rails. During rush hour traffic when traffic slows or if an accident stops regular traffic, the rail system keeps going so it would be a more reliable mode of transportation. Thanks to these elevated rails, the trains would not add to the already heavy traffic.

The Rail would consist of 200 foot or 70 meter long electric trains. Each train could carry 300 passengers. It would offer people one more affordable option for getting around Honolulu and Waikiki.

This new system, as part of Honolulu’s public transportation system, would help decrease traffic congestion and reduce pollution by keeping cars and other vehicles off the road and out of traffic. Reduced air pollution could improve air quality for everyone.

Sustainable Growth

Like many places, Hawaii is getting more and more populated and our roads are getting more and more crowded. This proposed Rail System and the improved infrastructure would help support this growth.

The trains would be powered by electricity and could use alternative and sustainable energy sources like wind, solar and biofuels.
