Energy Efficient Honolulu

Yes, Energy Efficient Honolulu ... not generally most people's top priority while they are here on vacation but it's an important step in keeping our island paradise beautiful.

Limit Maid Service

If you don't need towels and sheets changed everyday, call housekeeping and let them know you won't need maid service. By doing less laundry, hotels use less energy and less hot water which is good for the environment. Yes, you will still pay the same rate while you save the hotel money but the important thing is that you will be helping keep the environment clean.

Turn off lights and television

It's easy to forget about turning things off so as not to waste energy when someone else is paying the energy bill. Many hotels leave lights and televisions on for their guests' arrival which is a nice touch but wasteful. Just like at home, there's no need to leave lights and televisions on while you are out. It's simple and saves a good deal of energy.

Ask hotels about their energy efficient programs.

Some hotels really are doing their part by conserving energy and participating in other conservation programs. Find out if the places you want to stay recycle, use energy efficient lighting or save energy or are involved in any conservation activities. You might have to ask more than one person to find out and can sometimes get information from hotel websites.

Ask hotels about their recycling programs too.
